I was floored to hear this morning that IBM is laying off more workers in the United States. It has been occurring all over the place and to see it once again is devestating.
All of us in the Real Estate Industry and around the nation are painfully aware that every job lost is going to effect each and every one of us. From the Grocery store clerk, the truck driver to the Barista, the Real Estate agent and the Lender, we all feel the effects of lay offs and lost wages.
Like and Aftershock of the Stock Market the jolts just keep coming. What is frustrating me about the IBM layoffs is that they are sending the lost American jobs to India. How is that helping out when times are tough?
I try to buy made in the USA any time that I can. I try to support all of the local jobs and businesses in my area every chance I get. I feel it is my patriotic duty. Not only does it benefit those workers ...it benefits ME. Every penny I spend in my community or in my Country comes full circle. It enables those that are on the receiving end to employ me to sell them a home, employ my husband as a firefighter through the property taxes collected, and my teenage daughter who works at McDonalds.
We have to stop the hemmoraging somewhere. It should start with shopping local and keeping jobs in the U.S. This also means that the United States has to be an affordable place to employ.IBM has been employing citizens in the US for over 100 years. It began as a small company in New York.It took a nation such as our to ispire innovation and give it room to grow. To allow it to decide what was best for the company.I can't imagine that the decision that IBM made was an easy one, but it is one that we are going to have to deal with now.
If we do not support our own in these trying times...just exactly who are we supporting?
